Luther Village on the Park sought to replace an outdated emergency response system, which was only integrated with the telephone system. The 20-acre retirement community and Lutherwood subsidiary in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, wanted a wireless alerting system so its 450 residents could enjoy more mobility across campus.
“SARA provides a sense of security for residents while enabling them to be mobile on our 20-acre property. And we have always appreciated the high level of customer service and support received from Status Solutions, even on holidays and weekends.”
-- Margo Blayney, Director of Operations
Luther Village selected SARA for situational awareness and response management, specifically to power emergency alerting/mass notification. The community equipped each resident with a personal mobile duress pendant and also placed pull cords in their residences and common areas throughout the campus. Alerts go to staff members via pagers, with an escalation path that includes calls and text messages to the director of resident care. With SARA’s Positioning System (SPS), location information also is provided to staff as part of any alert. If a resident activates a pendant or pull cord, the vector-mapping technology that’s part of the SARA software compares the location of the alerting device in question to the vector model/map of the community’s wireless infrastructure to determine the closest positions. Location data helps caregivers/staff locate the alarm source more quickly and therefore provide faster response.
